TRAINING

We believe that training should begin as early as possible. A dog has to learn how to learn. We follow the Richard A. Wolters method of training with a few refinements. Richard's book "Water Dog" and "Game Dog" revolutionized training in the early 1960's and has been the method that all others are judged. Although we train our own dogs, we do not train others at this time. We do offer training tips. We recommend the videos "Water Dog" and "Game Dog" for those who want to train their dogs right.

We recommend the following books when it comes to training your retriever:
Water Dog by Richard A. Wolters
Game Dog by Richard A. Wolters
Family Dog by Richard A. Wolters
Finished Dog Field Manual by Charles Jurney
The Ultimate Labrador Retriever edited by Heather Wiles-Fone
Training Your Retriever by James Lamb Free

I sincerely recommend watching "The Dog Whisperer" TV show on the National Geographic's Channel.  Cesar Millan is the host and is incredible in changing a dog's (and the owner's) behavior.  Watch it every chance you get and become the "pack leader".  His web site is www.cesarsway.com.

We recommend the following magazines:
Fido Friendly - The Travel Magazine For You & Your Dog.  Each issue is packed full of travel destinations that welcome Fido as well as fun and informative articles pertaining to: Diary of Dog Chef, Fido Friendly Hotel and City reviews & more.
AKC Gazette - The official journal for the Sport of Purebred Dogs!
Dog & Kennel - Training, health care, feeding, grooming, bonding, events and the enjoyment of owning dogs
Dog World - Everything you need to know for the recreational and high-performance canine athlete and working dog
Gun Dog - North America's only magazine devoted exclusively to the world of upland bird, waterfowl hunters and their dogs.
Just Labs - From the publishers of "The Retriever Journal", is devoted to the family Lab-the black, yellow or chocolate dog who sleeps on the good furniture when you aren't looking; who greets you at the door each evening after work with a soggy tennis ball and is always close.

We recommend the following videos.
