1. Bring food and water and bowls for the dog. Try to maintain
feeding schedule.
2. Look for a "Pet Friendly" Hotel, like the Drury Inn.
3. Bring a blanket that is familiar to the dog, so it will
know where to lay down.
4. Don't forget dog toys and chew toys.
5. Each time you make a pit stop, the dog probably needs
relief too.
6. Carry small plastic bags in case the relief happens in a
high foot traffic area.
7. Make sure that the dog has a collar with identification and
phone number.
8. Make sure that the dog's medicals are up to date or bring
meds with you. Things like heartworm medicine, flea treatment,
shots, or prescriptions.
9. Don't leave your dog in a hot car with the windows closed.
10. Bring a leash for walking , exercising and control.
11. You always have the option of leaving your dog with a friend or
relative, or a kennel. If you frequently leave your dog at a
kennel, you may want to consider a kennel cough vaccination.
12. Brush you dog before you leave to remove loose hair.
13. Bring a whistle if your dog responds to a whistle.
14. If going to the extreme cold climate, have a dog jacket or
blanket available.
15. Be careful of things that may hurt your dogs feet, like cactus,
broken glass, hot asphalt pavement. Check your dog's feet each day
for damage if exposed to those dangers.
16. If your dog will be going in water, bring a towel to dry the dog
when he gets out.
17. If riding in a boat, and it's a sunny hot summer day, keep the
dog in the shade or pour water on it occasionally to cool the dog
down, especially if the dog is panting with it's tongue hanging way
out. Remember, dogs can't sweat to cool down, so a little water on
them helps.
18. If your dog gets in the woods or tall grass, check for fleas and
ticks.
19. Don't let your dog stray too far from you. It's a strange
environment and getting lost is easy.
20. Bring medicine to treat small cuts, so they won't get infected. |
